Support
Answers to the most common questions about Cittadella, the plans, your data and the translation of the texts.
Write to us
Write to support@cittadella.app. In the app, in Settings, Contact support opens an email to support with your support code: it helps us find the problem without asking you for other data. Please also include the app version, which you find in Settings. We answer in English and Italian.
If you are struggling
Cittadella is not a medical, psychological or emergency service. If you are in danger, or someone near you is, call your local emergency number. If you are thinking about hurting yourself, find a helpline in your country at findahelpline.com and talk to someone.
How the practice works
- The passage of the day: every morning a passage from Marcus Aurelius, Seneca or Epictetus, with its citation and a suggestion for putting it into practice. You find it on the Today tab and in the widget.
- The morning preparation: three short questions. What will I face today? What is up to me? How do I want to act?
- The evening review: as Seneca describes it. What did I do well? Where did I fall short? What will I do differently?
- Paths: one step a day, with a reading, a short note, an exercise and a reflection. If you miss a day, you can pick up again whenever you like.
- The journal: every practice and every reflection goes into the journal, day by day, with search and a calendar of the days you practiced.
In Settings you choose the times of the morning and evening reminders, and the text size and typeface for reading.
Ask the Stoics and Your week
Ask the Stoics: describe what is happening to you. The answer uses only passages from Cittadella's texts, with their citation, and suggests an exercise. If you want, you can include some recent entries from your journal.
Your week, with Pro: a reflection on the week's journal entries, with the themes that keep coming back, what changed and a passage for the week ahead.
The answers are generated by artificial intelligence and can contain mistakes: they are Cittadella's words, not the philosophers'. Before the first use, the app asks for your consent to send your text to our artificial intelligence provider; you can withdraw it in Settings. If an answer is wrong or offensive, report it from the app.
Ask the Stoics and Your week need a connection. Everything else also works offline.

The Ask the Stoics week starts over on Monday at 00:00, Italy time. The free question is counted per device and per account: reinstalling the app does not reset the week. A question that gets no answer because of a problem with the service is not counted. The full limits are in the Terms of Use.
In voice videos, the passage is read by a voice generated with artificial intelligence, and the video says so.

Account and sync
The account is optional. It saves a copy of your data, lets you find it on another device and lets you use the same subscription on iPhone and Android. You can sign in with Apple, with Google or with a 6-digit code sent by email, which is valid for 10 minutes. In Settings you add or remove sign-in methods, as long as at least one remains.
Your journal syncs only if you choose: the app asks for your consent before the first sync, and on the server the journal is stored encrypted. If you sign out, the data stays on the device.

- Export: in Settings you can export your journal and your progress to a file.
- Usage statistics: you turn them off in Settings, under Privacy and data.
- Delete the data on a device: in Settings you can delete all of Cittadella's data from that device.

All the details are in the Privacy Policy.
The translation
The texts are in Cittadella's own translations into English and Italian, made from the Greek and Latin with artificial intelligence and compared passage by passage with the original. Editions and credits are on the Sources and translation page. If you find a mistake in a passage, write to us with its citation (for example "Seneca, Letters to Lucilius, 1, 2").
Age
Cittadella is for people aged 14 and over. A parent can write to support@cittadella.app to find out what data we hold about a child or to have it deleted.
