Cittadella Terms of Use
Last updated: October 16, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Geometry Lab L.L.C-FZ ("Geometry", "we") for the use of the Cittadella app and its services ("Cittadella"). By using Cittadella you accept these terms and the Privacy Policy.
Cittadella is for people aged 14 and over. If you are under 14, do not use Cittadella. If you are under 18, we recommend that you read these terms with a parent, especially before a purchase.
What Cittadella does
Cittadella is an app for practicing Stoic philosophy in English and Italian. It offers the passage of the day with its citation, the morning preparation and the evening review, guided paths, the library with the works of Marcus Aurelius, Seneca and Epictetus in Cittadella's translation, a journal and two features that use artificial intelligence: Ask the Stoics and Your week.
What Cittadella is not
Cittadella is not a medical, psychological, psychotherapy or emergency service. It does not diagnose, it does not treat and it does not replace a doctor, a psychologist or another professional. The paths, the notes and the answers are for personal reflection.
If you are in danger, or someone near you is, call your local emergency number. If you are thinking about hurting yourself, find a helpline in your country at findahelpline.com. Do not use Cittadella in place of these services.
The texts and the translation
- The works of Marcus Aurelius, Seneca and Epictetus are in the public domain. Cittadella presents them in its own translations into English and Italian, made from the Greek and Latin with artificial intelligence and compared passage by passage with the original text.
- Every passage shown in Cittadella, in the app and on the site, comes from these translations and carries its citation (for example "Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, II, 1"). Cittadella never presents generated text as an author's words.
- The translations can contain inaccuracies. If you find one, write to us at support@cittadella.app.
- The editions we translate from and the credits, including the one for the Perseus Digital Library, are on the Sources and translation page.
- You can read all the texts for free, in the app and on the site. You can quote and share individual passages for personal use, including with the app's sharing feature, as long as you give the citation and name Cittadella as the translator. Do not copy the translations in bulk and do not republish them, in whole or in large part, without our written permission.
- In voice videos, the passage is read by a voice generated with artificial intelligence, and the video says so.
Ask the Stoics and Your week
- Ask the Stoics answers and Your week reflections are generated by an artificial intelligence system. They are Cittadella's words, not the philosophers': Cittadella does not pretend to be Marcus Aurelius, Seneca or Epictetus.
- Quotations in the answers always come from Cittadella's translations, with their reference. The server checks that every quoted passage exists in Cittadella's texts.
- Answers can be wrong, incomplete or not suited to your situation. They are not medical, psychological, legal or financial advice. Decisions about your life remain yours.
- If what you write seems to be about a danger to you or to others, Cittadella does not answer and shows you where to turn.
- If an answer is wrong or offensive, report it from the app or by writing to support@cittadella.app.
- To use these features, you give us your consent to send your text, and any journal entries you choose to include, to our artificial intelligence provider, as described in the Privacy Policy. You can withdraw it whenever you want: the other features remain available.
Your journal
- What you write remains yours. You give us a limited permission to process it only to provide the service: keeping it on the device, syncing it if you choose, and sending it to the artificial intelligence provider when you use Ask the Stoics or Your week.
- We do not use your journal for other purposes and we claim no rights over what you write.
- Do not put other people's personal data in your journal unless your reflection needs it.
Account
You can use Cittadella without an account. If you create an account with Apple, with Google or with a code by email, keep your device and your sign-in methods safe and do not use another person's account. You can add or remove sign-in methods, as long as at least one remains. You can delete your account at any time from Settings.
Free plan
Without a subscription you always have:
- the passage of the day, the whole library and the widgets;
- the morning preparation, the evening review and reminders;
- the journal, with search and export;
- the "What is up to you" path;
- sync across your devices, if you sign in with an account;
- sharing in the Night and Paper looks: any passage as an image, and the passage of the day also as a video and, once a day, as a voice video;
- 1 question a week to Ask the Stoics. The week starts over on Monday at 00:00, Italy time.
We count the free question per device and, if you are signed in, per account too. Deleting and reinstalling the app, or deleting the account, does not reset the week's count. A question that gets no answer because of a problem with the service, or that Cittadella answers by showing you where to find help, is not counted.
Cittadella Pro
Cittadella Pro is an auto-renewing subscription sold through Apple's App Store and Google Play (and Samsung's Galaxy Store, once the app is available there):
| Plan | Price in Italy | Free trial |
|---|---|---|
| Annual | €34.99 per year | 7 days, if you have not used it before |
| Monthly | €6.99 per month | none |
The app shows the plan, the exact price, the length and the free trial before you buy. In countries other than Italy the price can be different.
With Pro you get, on top of the free plan:
- all the guided paths;
- Ask the Stoics up to 20 times a day;
- Your week: a reflection on the week's journal entries, with the themes that keep coming back, what changed and a passage for the week ahead;
- for sharing, every look, including Marble and Storm, and videos of any passage, voice videos included.
Pro fair use limits. To protect the service and its costs, Pro has these limits:
- up to 20 questions to Ask the Stoics a day, where the day is the calendar day in Italy;
- up to 2 Your week reflections a week, where the week starts on Monday at 00:00, Italy time;
- short-term limits on the number of requests per minute or per hour, to block automated use.
When you reach a limit, you can continue once the limit resets. Everything you have written always remains available.
Payment, renewal and cancellation
- Payment is charged to your Apple or Google account when you confirm the purchase or, if you started a free trial, at the end of the trial.
- The subscription renews automatically at the same price and for the same period, unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- You can manage or cancel the subscription in your Apple Account settings (on iPhone: Settings, your name, Subscriptions) or in Google Play (Payments & subscriptions, Subscriptions). Deleting the app or your Cittadella account does not cancel the subscription.
- The free trial is available only once, under the store's rules. If you subscribe during the trial, the unused part of the trial may end.
- Refunds and the right of withdrawal are handled by Apple, Google or Samsung under their terms.
- If the store changes the price of the subscription, it tells you and, where the law requires it, asks you to accept the change.
- A subscription bought on iPhone or on Android works on all your devices, if you sign in with the same Cittadella account.
When the subscription ends
When the trial or the subscription ends, the limits of the free plan apply again. Everything you have written stays readable and exportable: your journal, your path reflections, and the Ask the Stoics answers and Your week reflections you saved to your journal. A Pro path you have not finished keeps the days you completed; to continue it you need Pro again.
Acceptable use
Do not misuse Cittadella. In particular, you must not: get around, probe or overload the security or the limits of the service; send automated requests outside the app; copy, resell or harvest the texts or the answers in bulk; send unlawful or offensive content; use Cittadella to mislead other people, for example by presenting a generated answer as a philosopher's words.
Third-party services
Cittadella uses third-party services to work, including Apple (App Store, sign-in, app verification), Google (Google Play, sign-in, app verification), OpenAI (generated answers and reflections, the voice in videos), RevenueCat (subscriptions) and Resend (sign-in emails). The use of some services, such as the App Store and Google Play, is also governed by the terms of those providers.
Availability and changes
The texts, the morning and evening practice, the paths and the journal also work offline. Ask the Stoics, Your week and sync need a connection, and the service can be temporarily unavailable. We may change, suspend or close features when this is needed for security, for the law, for changes by our providers or for the operation of the product. We keep journal export and account deletion available.
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they were last updated. If a change reduces your rights or changes the subscription, we will tell you in the app before it applies.
Intellectual property
The Cittadella app, its name, the design, the software, the translation of the texts, the path notes and the other original content belong to Geometry or its licensors, except for the credits listed on the Sources and translation page. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable license to use the app on the devices you own or control, under the rules of the store you downloaded it from.
Disclaimers and limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, Cittadella is provided "as is" and "as available", without any guarantee that it always works, that it works without errors, or that the translation and the generated answers are exact or complete. You decide how to use what you read. To the extent permitted by law, Geometry is not liable for indirect or consequential damages, and its total liability is limited to what you paid for Cittadella Pro in the 12 months before the claim.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for willful misconduct or gross negligence, or any other liability that the law does not allow to be limited, nor the rights that consumer protection law gives you.
Ending use
You can stop using Cittadella whenever you want: cancel the subscription from the store, delete the data from the device and, if you have one, delete the account from Settings. We may suspend or end access in case of serious misuse, fraud, security risks or legal obligations.
Apple
If you downloaded Cittadella from the App Store, these terms are between you and Geometry, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for Cittadella or its content, has no obligation to provide maintenance or support, and is not responsible for claims relating to Cittadella. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them. Your use must also comply with the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.
Google Play
If you downloaded Cittadella from Google Play, your use must also comply with the Google Play Terms of Service. Google is not a party to these terms and is not responsible for Cittadella.
Governing law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws that apply to Geometry Lab L.L.C-FZ in the United Arab Emirates. The mandatory consumer protection rules of the country where you live still apply, including your right to go to the courts of the place where you reside.
